TRADITIONS

Once a year we decorate Christmas cookies. Lin makes them ahead of time, so by the time everyone arrives all she has to do is mix up the colors of frosting. Some family members are very artistic. Gitta made a Christmas tree, complete with framed walls (toothpicks). Erin designed an angel with a mustashe and announced it was me. I have a tendency to apply the frosting with less care, and then eat it if I don't like the results. What traditions do you enjoy?

Hello Rod. Traditional Christmas cookies are my favorite and I recall getting them on Halloween as well when we were kids sometimes when we were trick or treating in Bandon.

Rod,

I just took a moment to breeze through a few pages of your blog and will positively keep it as one of my favorites. But I had to stop after reading about your father, the reflecting at the bogs and so on. Jesus took my mother's hand a few weeks ago ad I miss her terribly. Like you father, she was blessed with a long and wonderful life and one of no suffering even at the end. Please accept my heart felt condolences and know my prayers are with you and your family. I was just talking with the wife of another BHS classmate from my class who was also buried in Coquille. It seems I have lost so many friends and family is so few days. Strange that I didn't know your father yet in some way because of our friendship and us having grown up in Bandon and rode the buss, band and so on, I find a comfort in knowing we were both from a wonderful place and time.

One of the stories in my book (I Slept In Africa) I wrote about a dream I had about my father after he had passed away and how much he loved my mother. I had that dream while on safari in the African bush and when I woke up it was as if it had really happened. My father passed away some years ago and my mother only a few weeks ago. I don't know why but now I miss him more than ever since Mom has gone. You and I were truly blessed by God with great parents. Peace be with you and Merry Christmas.

Hi Gary
yes, we will always miss the previous generation. Fortunately the grandchildren are a blessing now. Have a good Christmas. Rod
